the pig of happiness

To bring a little bit of happiness to your world this weekend, I give you The Pig of Happiness!

Be warned; the tune will be stuck in your head for hours.  And you may feel the need to hum it aloud at inconvenient times, such as when an important cricket interview is occurring…

By Edward Monkton and via The Serendipity Factory.

“please don’t talk to me…

…i fall in love so easily” is the name of this blog that I’m liking a lot today (via 74 Lime Lane).  Who knows why they created it, or who they are, but I’m very happy to have stumbled across it.

My favourite picture for the day is this one:

I hope you’re all enjoying this rainy Sunday afternoon!

three things…

The first.  In case you haven’t noticed, there is a very cool header at the top of the page.  Mmm hmm.  My little brother took pity on his not-as-technologically-proficient-sister and made it for me.   Far better than what was on there before, let’s be honest.  Thank you Tux!

The second is that my very excited post two weeks ago about my new iPhone no longer stands. Unfortunately, it now only works when connected to an external power source and even that’s only so-so.  Hooray for advanced technology!  Stupid phone.

The third is this awesome clip.  We watched a DVD of a West Coast Swing routine to this song today and it’s been stuck in my head for the last eight hours.  So I thought I’d share the love.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

things we forget

So I’d like you all to ignore the terrible header of my blog at the moment.  It’s a stand in until I can convince somebody to help me create a pretty one.  Because I clearly have no idea how.  It was meant to look very different to what it does now…

But I thought, seeing as how I’ve busted my toe and will have a bit of spare time on my hands sans dancing, I’d start blogging again.  Mainly just to share all the random adventures I go on and random websites I find myself on.

This website I’m sharing is really called Post-it notes left to their fates in public places.  Which, quite frankly, is an awesome name for a blog.  The author draws on post-it notes an idea or saying that sometimes we need to be reminded of.  They then stick the note someplace random for somebody to find, and takes a photo of it sitting there all on it’s lonesome.

This is my favourite so far:

I hope you go with all your heart on your own adventures this week!

iron + wine

I’ve been putting this song on repeat for the last couple of days, so I thought I’d share it with you.  It’s called flightless bird, american mouth by Iron and Wine.  Yes, it is from the Twilight soundtrack, but I found this cute film clip made by blue90714 on YouTube that doesn’t feature any images of the Twilight characters at all!  Win.

I hope you enjoy, let me know your thoughts…

flower power

I’ve had a weekend filled with flowers, and any situation that has pretty flowers involved tends to work out well in my opinion!  First up, the beautiful goodbye card made by my year 6 kids from prac.

They made it so sneakily, and not one of them gave the game away!  I was very impressed with them.  Unfortunately, some of the “stems” didn’t quite survive the journey home from school.  Got to love school issued stationery…

I then picked up this gorgeous bouquet of roses when I was doing my grocery shopping, and it makes me happy to walk out into the living room of a morning to see them there, being all pink and gorgeous.

Tonight equals takeaway Thai food and movies with my housemate and a friend.  I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

imaginatively impaired

Because we’re all obviously too time-poor in this world, there is a website that creates your Facebook and Twitter statuses for you.  At Generatus (via How About Orange), you can find beauties such as this:

Kirri is wondering: why does the sun come out during the day, when it would be so much more useful if it came out at night when it was dark?

Or…

Kirri is all that.

As the website states, it’s for the “imaginatively challenged”.  Let’s hope your imagination holds up against all those witticisms.

a snake named darth

This is the professional photo I got taken at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary when I was volunteering there.  This guy is called Darth – he is a jungle carpet python.  He has a friend, also a jungle carpet python, called Spock.  Whoever named these guys was obviously a sci-fi fan.  Both snakes had very different personalities – Darth was all over the place, checking everything out all at once; hence he’s nearly out of the picture!  We had Spock out the next day, and he was just content to sit on top of you and stare out at the world placidly.

Carpet pythons are not venomous snakes, which is why they are used for photos with the kids and general public.  They do have incredibly strong jaws though, and a strong response to feeding, which is sometimes mistaken for aggression.  These guys were pretty docile, although apparently when they’re about to shed their skin they get a bit cranky and nippy.

This is a photo that the lovely Tracie took for me.  Larry is a sugar glider who loves meal worms and corn.  And who didn’t want to leave my hand to go back in his home because I still had half a meal worm!

This is Oscar the tawny frogmouth, who actually turned out to be a girl and is now affectionately dubbed Oscarina.  We let the kids feed Oscar meal worms, but as soon as she opened her mouth, they all freaked out and dropped the worms.  Poor Oscar only got like five worms out of the potential 20.  The skin inside their mouths looks really yellow, it was amazing.  They’re beautiful birds who are happy to just sit there and watch you as you talk.

I also got to meet Bundy the barking owl, who didn’t like being left in her cage when Oscar and Larry got let out, and a blue tongue lizard named Chopper.  Chopper is so named because he got chopped up by a lawn mower before he came in, and now has a stumpy tail.  Poor Chopper.

la musique!

I’ve been wanting to share these sites for awhile, and figured that I’d just put them in one post for you.  They’re all music-based, and two are interactive, which is awesome.  One was recommended to me by a work colleague from the Amazing People Club, and I found the other two sites via Stumble Upon.

- A word for the wise, since I’ve been using StumbleUpon, I have been procrastinating for far longer and more easily than ever before!

The first site you just sort of sit back, and watch, amazed that somebody A) thought to do this, and B) that they had the time to.  It is a ‘song’ composed only of Microsoft sounds available on every Windows computer.  They speed up, slow down, repeat certain parts, and just basically blow your mind.  Go here.

The second site is interactive, and is made up of a whole group of YouTube videos of people playing different musical instruments.  You press play randomly, and it all comes together nicely to form a musical piece.  I liked my first one the best, but didn’t pay attention to the order that I clicked, so haven’t been able to repeat it.  Go here to try it out yourself.

The last one is also interactive, and was probably my favourite because it is a very unique way of creating music.  I’m not even going to try to explain it, because when I attempted an explanation last night, my friend just stared at me blankly.  So go here and have a play around with the matrix.

That’s all for now folks – thanks for stopping by!

the real twilight ending

Just for laughs, I found this different ending to the movie Twilight. It shortens the series down by three books – quite an accomplishment!  This one was created for the anti-angst amongst us, methinks.

If you want to look at some of the other ones they have created, go to How It Should Have Ended.  Let me know if you find any others that you like!
